In a Black Mirror type scenario, a long haul UPS driver has received an undisclosed amount after suing the Peppermill Casino and is now going after a local police officer, accusing him of fabricating evidence and engaging in malicious prosecution.
This comes after Jason Killinger was barred entry from the Virginia Street casino on September 17th, 2023, and then detained half a day in a case of AI facial technology identification gone totally wrong.
The system had flagged Jason Dillinger as a 100% match for a man who had been barred from the casino due to previously sleeping on its premises.
An officer identified as R. Jager in court filings then allegedly refused to believe Killinger despite the driver showing him multiple IDs, a UPS pay stub and his vehicle’s registration in his name. He says he was even accused of colluding with a DMV “friend” to have a fake driver’s license.
During his detention for supposed trespassing, Killinger alleges he suffered from shoulder pain and bruises. He was eventually cleared after he had his fingerprints taken, proving his identity.
The Reno Police department has denied any wrongdoing, while the Peppermill has ignored requests for comment.
