Library Owner Pays Fees after Being Found Guilty of DUI Following Crash He Walked Away from in Downtown Reno

According to documents we were able to obtain via the Reno Municipal Court website, the owner of the downtown Library bar West Muller was found guilty of a DUI charge in late October, while charges of obstructing and resisting an officer and duty upon damaging an unattended vehicle were “dismissed with prejudice.”

According to the court documents, Muller received 48 hours of community service, a requirement to attend a victim impact panel, 13 weeks of DUI school and having a breath interlock device for 185 days, with a fee total of $843.

A previous public records request had revealed his arrest for a hit and run crash, driving under the influence, as well as obstructing and resisting arrest in early September.

We started looking into this story after being sent a video of Muller and his passenger leaving a damaged Cadillac in the middle of the road on 4th street, walking away despite several people following them, a dog barking and others off camera telling them “stay here,” “I got you on camera man, don’t go anywhere,” “where are you going,” and “don’t you want to be F**** responsable [sic].”

The police report we received had nearly 40 pages with the time of the crash listed as 12:36 September 7th involving two other vehicles, a blue Dodge Ram and a white Toyota Camry.

Several people in the community reached out to us asking repeatedly first if he had been arrested and then what had been the outcome.

The arrest report indicated two officers were dispatched after two white males had fled their car on foot, eastbound on 4th street, with the long-haired driver Muller wearing dark shorts and a purple shirt, with a bloody face and looking drunk.

The officers then located the two men in an area of 5th street, bloodied and still walking eastbound. The car passenger Conor Flanagan stopped and sat down on the curb when asked to do so, according to the report, while Muller allegedly fled into a trailer park, “despite repeated commands to stop.” He then allegedly hid behind a trailer before being detained. He was described in the report as being “extremely unsteady on his feet.”

The report says Muller allegedly said he “shouldn’t have been drinking and driving,” and that he looked “disheveled,” wearing just one flip flop at that point.

We reached out to the Library’s social media but never heard back.
