Eddy House Unionization Effort is Met With Opposition from CEO

After we released a post earlier today about the Eddy House non profit for at risk youths CEO Trevor Macaluso speaking out against unionization efforts among his staff, we received a flyer with the Eddy House logo with the bottom line stating “Think about it … will the union help you or cost you?”

We’ve since received multiple messages and allegations in comments accompanying our initial post about difficult working conditions there.

A press release from last week was also forwarded to us about the formal union effort with SEIU Local 1107, which cites safety, training and wage concerns, and a refusal from the Eddy House to voluntarily recognize the union.

The allegations includes a lack of medication management training, or for de-escalation techniques or “to identify abuse and neglect.”

One sentence also alleges “nepotistic hiring practices and unjust employee dismissals are ongoing issues that have led many employees to feel unsafe in their job security,” before denouncing low wages, while the CEO Trevor Macaluso earned over $158,000 in base pay in 2024, which we were able to verify according to the most recent tax filings.

There’s also stated concerns the Eddy House is “shifting toward a non-secular workplace environment, which they fear could threaten the safety and inclusion of LGBTQ employees and the vulnerable youth the shelter serves.”

According to his LinkedIn, Macaluso previously worked as Missions Director at the Christian church, The Crossing in Las Vegas before taking on the Eddy House leadership position in 2021.

“Through unionization, workers say they are seeking a safer workplace, fair compensation, and a meaningful voice in decisions that directly impact staff and clients alike,” the statement concludes.

“Eddy House is aware that Las Vegas-based Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1107 is seeking to represent a group of our employees. We respect every employee’s right to choose whether or not to pursue union representation and fully support their right to make that decision freely and thoughtfully,” Macaluso wrote today on social media as a rebuttal.

"While we are disappointed that some team members are seeking representation through a third party rather than working directly with our leadership team, we remain committed to maintaining open communication and a positive workplace environment. We have no doubt that all employees will continue to undertake their responsibilities with respect and focus on our collective mission.”
