Why is Reno Ward 4 Challenger Not Spending Most of His Campaign Contributions?

We took a quick glance at third quarter Reno council July to end of September campaign contributions reports as these came out yesterday, with some interesting findings.

In the Reno ward 4 race between incumbent Meghan Ebert and challenger Eddie Gomez what stands out is that despite outraising her, overall, and nearly matching her in the last quarter, the restaurant entrepreneur (with a recent Northern Nevada Public Health conditional pass as reported earlier today) has reported spending just $1,120 leaving him with a fund balance of over $44K, according to his latest contributions and expenses report.

Ebert raised $12k this period for a total of nearly $24k this year while spending $10k in this past quarter and nearly $15K this year. She has a fund balance of $11,800.

Her most recent contributions were $7,500 from Hamilton Properties, $2,500 from Kaempfer and Crowell, $1,000 from Wood Rodgers and $1,000 from AGC PAC.

Gomez, meanwhile, raised over $10K this period, with over $45K this year, while spending only $233 this quarter and just $1,120 on his campaign in 2026. A whopping 44,090 dollars remain unspent according to his third quarter filing.

This quarter, Gomez has gotten big sums from the Brenes Family Investments (3K) and Gregory Lansing (5K) and smaller amounts from Donald Abbott and Concepcion Meza, among some of the contributions we noted.

His only expenses were with Facebook ($226) and seven dollars and fifty cents with Nevada State Bank.

This comes as there has been a tit for tat between the two Reno Ward 4 candidates concerning articles in a local news website, and questions whether Latino and young adult support could carry Gomez to a victory against the incumbent.

We emailed Gomez to ask why he has spent so little on the campaign, and will update if we hear back.
