WEA Latest to Drop Endorsement for Eddie Gomez in Ward 4 Reno Race
The Washoe Education Association yesterday also withdrew its endorsement of Eddie Gomez running for Reno City Council Ward 4, just after Washoe County Commissioner Alexis Hill did so as well, in his race against incumbent Meghan Ebert.
“This decision follows recently reported allegations and other concerns that have come to our attention. While we recognize the importance of allowing individuals the opportunity to address allegations made against them, we also believe these matters deserve to be taken seriously,” a statement from the Washoe Education Association indicates.
“After reviewing the information available and discussing these concerns, our Board determined that withdrawing our endorsement was the appropriate decision. We wish Eddie the best moving forward and remain committed to advocating for our members, our students, and public education,” it concluded.
We have yet to see any recent notifications from two Reno council members Devon Reese and Miguel Martinez who are often at odds with Ebert and have been enthusiastically backing Gomez about the latest developments in this race.
Washoe County School Board Trustee Beth Smith who has been close to Reese is also reported to have withdrawn her own endorsement of Gomez.
Mike’s Reno Report also recently raised questions about the name Gomez is using on the ballot, with nicknames usually only allowed in quotation marks.
The filed request for TPO Domestic Violence cases filed on March 3rd and August 21st 2025 against Gomez had him listed as Eduardo Gomez, as did his recently reported on City of Reno liens, unpaid sewer charges and code violations.
“A nickname of not more than 10 letters may be incorporated into the name of a candidate. The nickname must be in quotation marks and appear immediately before the surname of the candidate,” according to the statute we could find about this.
