Slow Vote Counting Could be in the Cards for Nevada's Primaries, as Has Been the Case in California
With many voting by mail locally, there could be delays in knowing final results of the primaries, with Election Day on Tuesday and initial results released shortly after the close of polls and the last voter voting.
In tight races without much in person turnout, it could be several days before final results are known.
According to the Nevada Secretary of State website for mail in ballots being dropped off at voting centers, these need to be deposited by 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night to be counted.
“Mail-in ballots that are postmarked on or before the day of the election AND received by the 4th day after election day by 5 p.m., will be accepted as received and processed according to Nevada State law,” part of an FAQ answer indicates.
This means it could be several days before it will be known who will be going on to primaries in November.
In California for example, the rule is “vote-by-mail ballots postmarked on or before Election Day and received by county elections officials no later than 7 days after Election Day must be processed.”
Their primaries were on June 2nd, and nearly one week later, several races haven’t been called yet, such as for Los Angeles mayor where Nithya Raman now leads Spencer Pratt to face off against the incumbent Karen Bass for the November race.
Democrat Xavier Becerra has been called as making it to November for the governor’s race, but it’s still not certain if he’ll face off against likely challenger Republican Steve Hilton or another Democrat Tom Steyer, still in the realm of being in the top two due to the volume of mail-in votes there.
The slow vote counting has yet again led to confusion and frustration, and renewed unproven accusations.
In a Meet the Press Friday interview from a barn in Wisconsin with Kristen Welker, shared on social media, US President Donald Trump can be heard claiming both the current primary elections in California and the 2020 presidential election were “rigged" and “dirty."
"It’s four days and they aren’t even close …Do you know why they are doing that, because they are cheating on the elections," he alleged at the time of that interview.
When pressed for evidence, he added “All I have to do is look … and I listen.”
Trump then claimed Welker and media were “crooked” and then ended the interview, taking off his microphone and walking away.
