Devon Reese who Stunningly Crashed in June Primary Mayoral Elections Kept Paying Huge Amounts for Media Play, While Getting Donations from Jeff Jacobs, the Eddy, and from Non Nevada Addresses
The CE2 contributions and expenses report from April to June 30th 2026 show Devon Reese, who remains a Reno City council member, got a staggering amount of money originating with addresses in Downey, California, nine hours from Reno, and other non Nevada addresses, while still spending huge amounts for promotional services with Changing Dynamics and local media.
All this money resulted in just 4,688 votes in the June primary, in which he finished fourth, far behind even Eddie Lorton who finished third with over 9,000 votes. The two going on to November are council member Kathleen Taylor, who got over 9,500 votes, and former lieutenant governor Kate Marshall who garnered over 22,500 votes, placing her as the favorite to take over the leadership position from termed out outgoing mayor Hillary Schieve.
Schieve backed Reese, as did other influential members in the community in union, school board and marketing circles.
The late campaign money flows for Reese give a clear indication of those backing him, while at the same time showing how his hyperactive social media posting and self promotional spending failed to get much traction with voters.
In addition to $2000 from Jeff Jacobs, $5000 from billionaire Herbert Simon and $500 from the Eddy there are contributions listed from Tidwell Power and Tidwell Excavation out of Saticoy, California, eight hours from Reno, $5000 from Tucson Roadrunners in Tucson, $5000 from Doty Bros in Norwalk, CA, $5000 from Herman Weissker in Chino and another from that individual but with an address in Riverside, $5,000 from Fujisan Franchising Group and $5000 from Fuji Food Products both in Santa Fe, $5000 from Select Electric in Anaheim and $5000 from Neal Electric in Carlsbad.
There is also a long list with addresses based in Downey, CA, near Los Angeles (5K from La Placita, 5K from 4975 W Pico, 5K from 7th and B street, 5K from Pacific Court, 5K from Monterey Insurance, 5K from Meruelo Real Property, 5K from Alex Meruelo Living Trust, 5K from Carson Normandie Plaza, 5K from One Call Construction Services and 5K from Meruelo Enterprises, 5K from Power Sports, 5K from Meruelo Gaming, 5K from Meruelo Group, 5K from Meruelo Capital, 5K from Cantamar, 5K from LBPS, 5K from Miracle Housing, and 5K from Meruelo Investment).
Alex Meruelo owns the GSR for which a tax increment financing agreement was approved by the Reno City Council last year related to its new stadium and expansion plans.
In terms of late pre election expenses, the report shows Reese paying Changing Dynamics $171,381 (including over 61K on June 5th), KTVN $17,918, over $17K to KOLO and over $15K to Sinclair.
Shortly after the election, when we had complained Devon Reese signs were still up and noting he had previously given Changing Dynamics $98,000 from November 25th, 2024 to February 10th 2026, and that the return on investment for the votes he got was quite low we got an email from Riley Sutton, who describes himself as the Chief Strategist of Changing Dynamics, titled “Please Stop.”
We had pointed out that Changing Dynamics says it helps “progressive” candidates while we haven’t seen any progressive economic policies coming from Reese during his time on City Council besides his late campaign move to back data center moratoriums within city limits.
