BLM Nevada Seeks to Reassure Public on Plight of Wild Horses in Bug Fire Evacuation Zone
BLM Nevada has been reassuring the community on the plight of wild horses in the Palomino Valley in an evacuation area with repeated interviews and a statement on social media.
"The Palomino Valley Wild Horse and Burro Facility, located north of Reno, remains within the evacuation area of the #BugFire," it indicates on its Facebook page with these photos.
"Bureau of Land Management staff continue to provide essential care, including feeding, watering, and daily routines, as the incident develops.
Contingency plans are in place to ensure continued access to water. Only critical emergency responders and authorized animal care personnel are allowed on site.
Residents and visitors are urged to keep roads clear and avoid the area."
« Praying for the Horses at Palomino Valley holding facility, » Monica Martinez Ross wrote earlier this week.
« Praying for everyone’s safety as these fires continue to threaten communities, homes, wildlife, and livestock. ❤️ But for those of us who are particularly worried about the wild horses currently being held at the BLM facility, our hearts are absolutely on pins and needles right now.
Many of these horses were just removed from the Callaghan Complex and Lahontan HMA Burro’s from Spring Mountain HMA. They have already endured the stress of capture (and) transport."
