Citizen’s Forum: Local Seeks to Reunite with Pets after Being in a Coma
“Last year, someone I love dearly—my friend Craig [Cadwell]—went through an unimaginable ordeal. He suffered severe health complications and spent months hospitalized, much of that time in a coma. For a long while, no one knew if he would survive,” Bea Garcia writes sending us these photos.
“During that time, and believing they were doing what was necessary, his next of kin had to surrender his two beloved companions—his babies—Herbert, a cat born in February 2018, and Walter, a dog born in December 2021. They were reportedly fostered or adopted very quickly.
When Craig woke up and learned what had happened, his heart broke all over again. Losing them while he was fighting for his life has been a grief that still weighs heavily on him. Herbert and Walter were his family, his comfort, his constant source of love.
This message is shared with nothing but respect and gratitude for whoever opened their home to them. If by chance the person or family who adopted Herbert or Walter sees this, please know that Craig holds deep appreciation for the love you’ve given them. He would never want to disrupt a happy, safe home.
He simply hopes—if you’re open to it—that there might be a chance to reconnect, even just to know how they are, to see a photo, or to know they are safe and loved.
Sometimes love finds its way back in unexpected ways. If this story sounds familiar to you, or if you know anything about Herbert or Walter’s adoption, please consider reaching out.
Thank you for reading, for sharing, and for believing in the power of compassion.”
