Alleged Destruction of Canada Goose Nest Faces Scrutiny at Carson City School

The Nevada Department of Wildlife is reported to be investigating an official from the Cason City School District as a yet to be publicly named person faces community accusations of intentionally destroying a Canada Goose nest at Fritsch Elementary School on Bath Street.

“The district adheres strictly to the law, proper school governance and sound employment practices. Consistent with policy and legal requirements, the district does not comment on personnel-related matters,” a Carson City School District statement to the media indicates.

Several years ago, a goose family had set up a nest on the school’s playground. The school had then fenced off the area and turned the family’s presence into many educational opportunities. Once Canadian geese have established a nest they become federal protected.

Carson Now recently reported they had received tips that during a dog walk a school district official used her dog to chase off a goose on school grounds before allegedly destroying a nest, stomping eggs and throwing everything out, which if confirmed and there’s a conviction could be punishable by up to $15,000 and or up to six months in jail.
