Footage Released of Police Killing in Silver State Plaza in Sparks from March 12
A photo of Jedidiah Guerra was included in a YouTube video released today with bodycam and drone footage showing when he was shot to death after a late morning standoff with law enforcement at the Silver State Plaza in Sparks on March 12th.
He had previously told a 911 dispatcher he planned to enter the Planet Fitness there and kill everyone inside but then said he didn’t want to, before multiple officers and a SWAT team showed up, while he was inside a white pickup truck in the parking lot.
The call to 911 also included him saying he had a handgun, and that he was a friend of God when asked to describe himself.
At about 11:54 a.m., he is reported to have released a dog from his truck. At 11:56 a.m, he is reported to have driven at a high speed toward a police vehicle, while allegedly producing a gun and pointing it at an officer.
The video shows bodycam footage with a pickup truck driving toward an officer and what appears to be a gun inside a red circle added in editing, before the small truck clips the police vehicle with a dog running behind. Another bodycam video shows an officer raising a firearm from inside a police vehicle and shooting at the truck driver after he sped toward him and then sandwiched the police car against a curb, while many more shots are fired through the truck’s windshield by officers standing outside when the pickup and police car are briefly stuck together facing in opposite directions.
Fifteen minutes later, officers then said they approached the suspect who was dead inside the pickup truck. The video ends with a black handgun shown from what appears to be inside the pickup truck.
