City of Reno Gives Few Details on Pay for Interim Police Leadership Amid Ongoing Investigation of Police Chief and Others

After asking to get more detail on how much exactly the new Reno police interim leadership is getting via the previously stated up to $2 million so called Interlocal Agreement (ILA) with Washoe County we just received this response from the City of Reno:

"Under the terms of that agreement, the compensation structure for the interim leadership, including Acting Chief Corey Solferino, Acting Chief of Support Staff Wayne Yarbrough, and Acting Chief of Sworn Staff Sean Garlock, is managed through the Sheriff’s Office as part of the overall contract. This includes salary, benefits, and any associated costs," an email from today indicates.

"The City is not paying any additional compensation beyond what is outlined in the ILA, and Acting Chief Solferino’s role is covered within that agreement, not as an add-on to his existing Washoe County Sheriff’s Office salary.

We can confirm that the hourly contracted rate for both Acting Chief of Support Staff Wayne Yarbrough and Acting Chief of Sworn Staff Sean Garlock is $150/hour, but because these positions are administered through the Sheriff’s Office under the ILA, additional details such as hours worked and individual compensation should be directed to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office."

Reno PD chief Kathryn Nance and five still to be publicly named top officers remain on paid administrative leave since a dramatic public announcement March 9th of possible city violations for a yet to be detailed investigation being conducted by the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

An attorney representing the police officers union has said there is also a criminal investigation being conducted by the Nevada Attorney General’s Office.

"Under this agreement, Acting Chief of Police Corey Solferino, who stepped into the role on March 9, 2026, will be joined by retired Reno Police Department Commander Sean Garlock and retired Washoe County Undersheriff Wayne Yarbrough. Garlock will support the department’s sworn personnel as Acting Chief of Sworn Staff, while Yarbrough will help lead the department’s support staff as Acting Chief of Professional Staff," the City of Reno wrote several weeks ago.

"This temporary leadership structure follows the City Manager’s decision to place the Reno Police Chief and five department members on administrative leave pending the outcome of an independent, administrative investigation currently being conducted by an outside agency."
