Anti-Establishment Northern Nevada Congressional Candidate Calls out Greg Kidd on Crypto Connections and Wealth

At an April 18th candidate’s Rural Nevada Democratic Caucus in Elko for would be voters to hear from the many candidates in the highly contested Congressional District 2 primary, there was an interesting moment recently reshared on social media from one of the candidates, Josh Hebert, with an initially wide mouthed Greg Kidd sitting right next to him.

Hebert first defines crypto calling it “digital gold” created by a libertarian “who did not trust central banks,” while Kidd nods his head. “He wanted to have some kind of independent currency that would act like gold in the fact that you have to mine for it, using all kinds of digital resources, which takes a lot of power, takes a lot of water. It’s tremendously inefficient,” Hebert continues.

At this point, Kidd is actively listening but his thin lips are now pursed.

“He has a bunch of crypto businesses,” Hebert continues, referring to Kidd, but looking at attendees. “He has USBC, he has Global ID, and he has Vast Bank.” At this point, another candidate Gamy Enriquez nods his head in approval, while Kathy Durham sitting on Hebert’s other side looks tense.

“So he’s looking for regulatory changes, to have the U.S. dollar running on crypto rails,” Hebert alleges. “It will make him an extraordinarily wealthy person,” he continues in his allegations.

“Now I don’t know whether it’s a good system or not … But I definitely think it’s something that he should be disclosing in this race because it is a massive conflict of interest for him to be in Congress trying to get the regulations that he needs for the financial revolution that he wants to launch…” he adds.

The remarks once ended are followed by claps. Hebert said Kidd didn’t respond.

He says Kidd called him a liar previously at the South Washoe Dems town hall after he compared him to Elon Musk, “but he’s been ignoring me since then. My reach is limited, so it’s the smart thing to do—he doesn’t want to elevate me by engaging. I’m going to keep on hitting him every chance I get,” Hebert wrote to us today when asked about their exchanges.

A profile page on investoro.com describes Kidd as “a serial entrepreneur and investor, founder of the Hard Yaka investment group. Early investor & Advisor of Twitter, Square, Ripple, Coinbase, Twillio and other successful companies. Co-founder and CEO of Global ID.” His LinkedIn has him living in Crystal Bay as chairman and CEO of USBC since August 2025. Articles also describe him as the majority shareholder of Tulsa-based Vast Holdings. All of these companies have operated in the crypto space. Kidd’s net worth is estimated in the hundreds and hundreds of millions.

In 2024 Kidd ran without political affiliation and got just 36.1% of the vote being soundly defeated by incumbent Republican Mark Amodei who got 55% and is now retiring, opening up the race on both sides of the aisle.

Kidd’s current website has him wearing a Nevada sweatshirt, calling himself “a builder.” He has been featured repeatedly as sponsored commentary on This is Reno, with events he’s a part of written up and promoted on that outlet’s social media.

The current Democratic Primary also includes Teresa Benitez-Thompson who seems to be the favorite of establishment Democrats, Durham seems to have some rural backing, while Kidd is liked by libertarians and independents, and more to the left voters are closely looking at the group of so-called anti establishment candidates including Hebert, Enriquez and Morgan Wadsworth.
