Is There Local Media Discrepancy on its Geography and Intensity of Fire Coverage?

"Something needs to be said plainly. When our local news reports that the fire has shifted and is now burning the "back side of Peavine," that means Stead, Lemmon Valley, Golden Valley, Silver Knolls, and the surrounding North Valleys. It means homes lost. It means people stuck for hours in gridlocked traffic trying to get out, some with no viable route at all. It means families now scrambling to find a place to stay, often with pets and only what they could grab on the way out the door," Jen Salisbury writes.

"And yet, since yesterday, coverage from our local news has stayed fixed on Somersett and Verdi," she alleges.

"Those communities are facing real danger and deserve attention. That is not in question. What is in question is why the North Valleys, where structures have already burned and where residents are living through the same emergency, continue to receive a fraction of the coverage.

This disparity is nauseating. The people of Stead and Lemmon Valley are not a footnote to this fire. They are living through it in real time, and they deserve to see their reality reflected in the reporting, not treated as an afterthought while the cameras stay pointed elsewhere.”
