Courage Worldwide Releases Cryptic Message, with its Website Now Down to Vague Front Page
“Progress doesn’t always happen all at once,” Courage Worldwide wrote in a cryptic social media post this week with a photo of a mural of a giraffe overlaid with the words “You don’t have to see the whole path to take the next step.”
This comes as a local television station is reporting its Courage House Nevada is closing, just a few months after opening.
“Sometimes it’s simply taking the next step, even when you don’t know exactly what comes next,” the Courage Worldwide post indicates.
Its website only has one page now, where you can still donate. It indicates: “We’re Building Something Special” adding a new website is in development.
The background photo appears to be from Tanzania where Courage Worldwide has also had operations including a so-called “Courage Cafe.”
“A little update from Courage House Tanzania. Our team continues providing a safe home, education, care, and everyday support for the girls and babies in our care. We’re grateful for the people who make these ordinary days possible!” Courage Worldwide wrote on social media earlier this week.
Contrary to fawning coverage from local television stations, we have written a series of articles concerned about methods which were used at its northern Nevada location since it welcomed assigned girls there in recent months, before fewer and fewer were staying, according to an account from a parent. We also reported about concerns from disaffected former staff and angry parents, with at least one complaint filed with Animal Regional Services to look into the treatment of horses at its northern Nevada location.
“Washoe County Human Services Agency collaborates with a variety of service providers that support children and families with differing needs, Courage Worldwide being one of them. Placement decisions are based on a comprehensive assessment of each child's unique circumstances, safety, and best interests – not on a single circumstance or label,” Bethany Drysdale, the Washoe County communications manager, wrote back to Our Town Reno without offering specific details when we asked about these concerns.
Washoe County officials have repeatedly declined to offer details after we asked if girls there were victims of trafficking as Courage Worldwide insists it is focussed on, while Courage Worldwide itself has ignored queries for comments.
After one of our articles pointed out Richard Jay was a board member, he then marked himself on his public LinkedIn as a past board member with a tenure from 2024 to July 2026.
“I haven’t really been involved with operational functions,” Jay had previously written back to Our Town Reno in late July. “My role is more of finding grants and donations,” he wrote before he stopped answering questions about this.
In yet another article we pointed to a Truckee address which lists a mail center for printing services used for Courage Worldwide as well as for Williamson Energy Inc.
Articles in the Sacramento Bee pointed out that in 2016, the nonprofit started in 2005 with a “vision” from God saw founder Jenny Williamson close a six-bed facility for girls under 18 in Northern California due to being cited for state violations including inadequate staffing levels.
A former employee told the Bee the nonprofit had been cited over a dozen times in the first half of 2016, with other violations such as breaching privacy. Previously the reports indicated the nonprofit had been cited for not respecting residents’ freedom of religion and forcing them to attend church services every week.
Other former employees pointed to a volatile environment with high turnover among staff, unexpected firings and micromanaging, as well as recurring complaints on the use of identifiable images of girls staying at the home being posted on social media.
One licensed therapist was then quoted as saying the situation was “abusive.” The article indicated previous clients were enrolled by social workers or probation officers netting the facility about $9,000 a month per girl in government support.
In those articles, Williamson called the citations and accusations baseless, absurd and unfair.
