Sparks Councilman Joe Rodriguez is Suspended as State Fire Marshal after DUI, While Friday Night Photo with Reno Mayoral Candidate Devon Reese Disappears

Joe Rodriguez, both a Sparks City council member and Nevada’s state fire marshal, has been suspended from his Department of Public Safety state job, pending an internal investigation.

Rodriguez, previously a school board trustee, is currently in Washoe County custody facing a DUI charge after having been reported arrested on State Route 445 following a crash involving a state vehicle, according to an insider with knowledge of the investigation.

Friday night, Reno council member Devon Reese had posted a photo of himself on his mayoral political candidate page, with Rodriguez and another Reno councilman Miguel Martinez, all smiling at the Professional Bull Riders competition at the Reno Events Center, with Reese noting there were plenty of options for fun on the weekend in the area currently.

Reese still has a post up on Facebook but the photo with Rodriguez seems to have been deleted as well as a reference to his presence.

“Downtown Reno is absolutely (lit emoji) tonight,” the caption from Reese's public social media now indicates without mention of the smiling trio. “PBR at the Reno Downtown Events Center… world class riders, packed stands, that electric energy you can feel the second you walk in. There is nothing like the roar of a Reno crowd when that chute gate swings open. And just a few minutes away, Western Lights is transforming downtown into a glowing, sparkling work of art. The installations, the music, the snow catching the lights just right… it feels magical. This is the Reno I love. Big time events. Local businesses buzzing. Restaurants full. People bundled up and out enjoying our city together. Downtown is popping. Proud of everyone who works behind the scenes to make nights like this happen. Let’s keep showing up for our city."
