Former Reno PD Deputy Chief Needs to Pay Rest of Bail, or Face Immediate Jail in Child Abuse for Sex Sting Operation Case

Another scandal engulfing the Reno PD department is former deputy chief Tom Robinson facing charges of solicitation of a minor for prostitution and attempted child abuse for sexual exploitation after he was arrested during a sting operation last October.

Robinson, 52, who retired from Reno PD in 2024 after 28 years with the department, entered a plea of not guilty during his arraignment on Thursday in Washoe County District Court.

Police say he agreed to meet with who he believed was a 17-year-old girl, after allegedly exchanging text messages with an undercover officer and arriving with the agreed upon $150 in cash plus an extra ten dollars in his possession.

Judge Barry Breslow removed the 10% bail option previously in effect, with Robinson now having until next week to pay the remaining $27,000 to meet his required bail amount or turn himself in to the Washoe County jail.
