Embattled Education and Human Development Dean at UNR Placed on Administrative Leave

An email sent to UNR Education and Human Development faculty this morning indicates its dean, Donald Easton-Brooks, has been placed on administrative leave, with Jannet Vreeland who had been retired, now serving as acting dean.

“Dr. Vreeland has graciously agreed to step out of retirement to serve in this role,” the message indicated. It was noted Vreeland previously worked more than three decades at the university.

There was no reason given for why Easton-Brooks was on administrative leave or why someone currently on staff was not put in the acting dean position.

This morning's message was from President Brian Sandoval and Executive Vice President and Provost Jeff Thompson.

Last month a vote by faculty resulted with 85.5% electing they had no confidence in Easton-Brooks, amid allegations of misconduct, particularly with women, low morale and high turnover.

Previously, we received a correspondence screenshot which indicated "evidence" supported a reported charge against him of "perceived threats and intimidation and / or workplace bullying that occurred between Fall 2023 to Spring 2024."

Easton-Brooks initially took on his leadership position at UNR in June 2019, after moving from the University of South Dakota.
