Former Tenant Describes Horrors of Local Apartment, While Flyers Are Distributed for a "Joint Revolt"
“I moved out of that nightmare two weeks ago,” a local writes of a unit at the Lakeview Apartments on Brinkby Avenue, with photos from their experience there, from overspilled trash to cracks, unavailable amenities and alleged mold.
“Mold samples were collected and stored on temperature controlled Petri dishes,” they added in their message to Our Town Reno, while saying a "joint revolt" is being organized.
For this purpose, flyers are being distributed among tenants by a group calling itself the Catastrophic Failure Commission warning of mold exposure risks, while reminding them that “under Nevada’s habitability laws, landlords are legally required to resolve conditions that jeopardize your health and safety.”
The website for these apartments brands itself as “Remarkable, Vibrant Living in Reno.”
“Our modern community brings you an inviting studio, one, two and three bedroom apartment home in a notable neighborhood. From exploring exciting territory around town or keeping it close to home by taking advantage of the laundry facility, you’ll always have something to look forward to when you live at Lakeview,” the website indicates with studios priced starting at about $1345 per month, and $2292 for two bedroom apartments, excluding “usage-based fees and required charges due at or prior to move-in or at move-out.”
We called a number associated with the apartments today but no one answered.
Recent google reviews of those apartments have been extremely negative with other former tenants urging current ones to document their experiences to protect themselves and prospective ones not to move there.
One tenant Marcso Dorcely a month ago alleged there was “a serious cockroach problem. Before I moved in, pest control came and sprayed, but it seems like the roaches have become even worse since then. Also, I would like to use the gym. I requested access and was told that the information would be sent to me, but I still haven't received anything. Could you please help me with both issues?” he asked.
Lakeview Apartments responded to that review indicating “We apologize for the pest issue and the delay in gym access. Our team is working on resolving the pest problem, and we will make sure to send you the gym access information as soon as possible.“
Another reviewer Ehsan Sahar wrote earlier this year “it has now been more than a month since I submitted a maintenance request for a broken stove. Each time I follow up, I am told the request is “in progress” and that new stoves will arrive in two days, but nothing has been done. I was told this was registered as an emergency, yet the issue remains unresolved.
Because the stove is not working, we cannot cook and have been forced to spend extra money on food. This delay is unacceptable, and I expect management to resolve this issue immediately.”
“Ehsan, we apologize for the delay in resolving the maintenance request for your stove. That is not the level of care we hold ourselves to, and we understand the inconvenience and frustration this may have caused. We appreciate your patience and understanding,” part of the response indicated.
