In Debt Pastor and His Christian Camp Kicked Out of Burning Man

“Setting up our "Shift The Atmosphere" camp at Burning Man!! We are very excited to get to love on and serve the burners, bringing JESUS to them!

Come join us! 4:45 & Fulcrum ” John Hinerman wrote several days ago before then posting videos complaining about being kicked out from the playa.

A community note added by an Instagram user on one of his recent posts indicates Section 15 of the Burning Man ticket contract prohibits promotion, with the added note that “overt religious proselytizing is promotion and is also bad-faith participation in the event under false pretenses.”

Hinerman had previously posted a Dallas based gofundme on August 19th from which these are photos called “Partner with John being debt free for full-time ministry! “which had raised $800.

“During my time in the Navy I was radically encountered by Jesus and became set on fire for Him. My plan was to become a United Stated Navy Seal and to be on the front lines of a physical war... and God asked me to surrender my ways and my plans to Him, so I did, and He redirected me to the mission field. I got out of the Navy in March 2025 and had then acquired $10,000 of debt trying to figure out what I was going to do and how to adapt back to civilian lifestyle as I stepped into giving Jesus my full yes and stepping into the mission field,” he wrote for his fundraiser.

The portion of Black Rock City previously occupied by the Christian themed camp Shift the Atmosphere sat empty today, across from Kidsville.

Members of the religious camp were evicted after several confrontations with other burners, who complained they were being too loud with Christian music and aggressive, grabbing and holding onto people’s hands without consent, as well as taking videos of attendees without their consent.
