Protest Over Wells Ave Bridge Unfolds Without Injuries, Contrary to Wellness Check on Michael Johnson

There were lots of Reno police officers and vehicles yesterday at the bottom of the bridge and on the bridge as protesters walked over it to honor Michael J. Johnson a Black man killed by police on February 3rd after a wellness check gone terribly and tragically wrong.

Pedestrians aren't allowed on the bridge, so during their first pass at the exact time Johnson was shot to death by police, Reno PD blocked it off to traffic in both directions, after protesters had walked half its distance, with motorists waving, honking and raising fists in solidarity.

Community advocate Lily Baran noted no one was injured during the protest action, calling it "a wildly effective community lead de-escalation training for Reno Police Department the exact time of day and location of the incident that resulted in the killing of a 27 year old Black man on the third day of Black history month, and hospitalization of their own officer due to gunshot wound from their co worker.

We were able to walk the police department through the scenario twice without any injuries to their own officers or death of a community member...

Encouraging taxpayers to submit an invoice and [FOIA] for the money they paid today for the police to go through this training.

We are so happy that we were able to instruct how to effectively de-escalate without harm to community or police officers .

We look forward to continuing to aid RPD in these life saving efforts...

Rest in profound love and power Michael j. Johnson jr. and the countless others who have been executed by state sanctioned violence. HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH"
