Reno PD Investigates Recent Circus Circus Skyway Fight, with Warnings About Such Incidents
While Reno PD is investigating a weekend fight on the Circus Circus skyway, with possible suspects being identified, Hunter Mercurio is warning the community about such repeated incidents.
Video from another fight outside West Second Street Bar was also circulated from this weekend with people filming running away as police arrived.
“Fights in general can be very dangerous because whether you're the victim or the suspect, some of these fights can end in causing substantial bodily harm or even death. And so if you think you're just getting in a normal fight with somebody depending on the severity of the injuries, you could be charged with a felony crime,” Hunter Mercurio told Our Town Reno on a phone call this morning.
Mercurio said there are surveillance cameras downtown everywhere, meaning culprits can be easily found and held accountable.
“Stay away from confrontational situations,” he advised for those going out in downtown Reno. “Make sure that you’re with a responsible group of friends who are watching out for you, because intoxication can always be a factor in these fights."
Mercurio said it’s also wise to have a game plan when going out, to always look after your group, and to find a safe ride home.
“Avoid these situations,” he said of fights, “because they can end up being deadly and also there's criminal charges that come along with that too, depending on if the person wants to press charges or the severity of the crime.”
Mercurio also warned against those encouraging fights to keep going.
“Try to be a de-escalator, try to help separate people from that situation instead of just standing by and filming, try to help dissolve the situation a little bit and make sure that people are safe so that everybody can have fun on the weekends and nobody gets hurt," he concluded on our phone call.
